The building was extensively modernized in 2004, and that is when it was also named de Nieuwe Maaskant. Since 2016 it has been a municipal monument. In November 2018 VORM became owner of de Nieuwe Maaskant. The office area of 3,000
m2 was too small. The solution that VORM found fit within Maaskant's vision. Four large columns are placed straight through the building. The glass 'box' ter The size of the original building that will be built on top of it seems to float. This top floor will be built elsewhere and transported over the water to the Schiehaven.
